Thread Talks Presenter Registration

Take to the worldwide web and share your fiber art idea, project, or experience. We are searching for creative makers who will inspire, surprise and delight the audience with their story in under 15 minutes. We all have stories to tell about our love of and experience with fiber. This is your chance! Public speaking experience is not required.

Submission Deadline: We will accept submissions until the schedule is full

Guidelines

Conditions for Acceptance
Before an application for a Thread Talk can be accepted, it must meet the following criteria.
  • Availability: There must be availability in the category and time slot you're applying for
  • Community Fit: You must be likely, in our judgment, to be a good addition to the fiber art conversation -- someone who can contribute to the conversations and community at the conference, and the projects that may come out of it
Technical Requirements
Thread Talks will be presented online using Cvent that is similar to Zoom. Familiarity with giving online presentations is recommended. We may ask for a test run or rehearsal before committing you to a time slot.
  • Lighting: Ability to present from a well-lit space. We recommend a Ring light or something similar.
  • Technology: You will need to have a webcam (via computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and a microphone or phone with good sound quality. Headsets work great.
  • Visual Material: It is recommended that you provide visuals to support your presentation, this can be a Powepoint presentation, a demonstration, artwork, etc. If using Powerpoint you will be asked to share your computer screen and to run the presentation as you speak.
  • Facilities: Your presentation should be able to be given from a space without interruptions (pets, children, television, etc.)
At a Thread Talk, you agree to:
  • Limit your talk to no more than 15 minutes.
  • Avoid aggressively pushing your own services, products or causes.
  • Share information but do not advertise or ask for money. No selling from the stage.
Selection Process
We will evaluate your nomination and will share this information with staff members and third parties selected to review speaker applications. Priority will be given to those holding an active HGA membership. HGA reserves the right to reject applications for a Thread Talk. All participants will receive free admission to next year's Spinning & Weaving Week Celebration in 2023.

HGA's Right to Terminate
We reserve the right to terminate any Thread Talk at any stage without explanation by notifying the individual concerned by email.
