Juror's Talk: "Dogwood to Kudzu" 2022 Basketry Exhibit
Juror Judy Zugish will describe the artwork in the basketry exhibit through their form, technique, material and/or function noting the relationship between old and new, between functional and sculptural, and showcasing the evolution of the medium and the ever-expanding definition of the term "basket". Produced by the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. (HGA), the Dogwood to Kudzu exhibit and juror's talk took place at the 2022 Convergence® conference held July 2022 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Juror's Talk will be conducted via HGA's Zoom platform and will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 1 - 2 pm EST. Registration for the live event will close at 12:00 PM ET. All registrants and anyone who registers after registration closes for the live event will receive access to an "on demand" recording of the juror's talk. A link will be emailed 24 hours after the juror's talk has ended.
Juror Judy Zugish began experimenting with garden fibers in 1978. This soon led to an obsession for basketmaking and many years of pursuing technique with notable traditional weavers. Today, her contemporary works using gathered natural materials are exhibited widely. She teaches her signature style both at home and abroad.
