Internship Applications

The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. (HGA) will present Convergence®, its 24th biennial international fiber arts conference, July 6-12, 2018 at the Peppermill in Reno, Nevada. This 7-day conference includes art exhibits, seminars and workshops, a fashion show, keynote presentation by Jason Collingwood, textile tours, marketplace, juror’s talks and more. With more than 120 sessions taught by leading fiber art instructors and more than 1,500 attendees this conference is an opportunity for students enrolled in accredited Fiber Arts programs to be immersed in the inspiration of Convergence®.
Convergence® Internships
Funded by donations to HGA’s Fiber Trust, Convergence® Interns will assist Leaders in their classrooms, assist with exhibit set-up and tear-down, work behind the scenes on the Fashion Show, and perform various conference duties as needed by the HGA Staff. In return, students receive a complimentary Convergence® Value Package (CVP) and the opportunity to take *Sessions for free (*based on availability and Interns are responsible for any Session material fees or supplies). HGA covers all travel and lodging expenses.
Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in an accredited fiber arts program at a university or college

Ability to fulfill the requirements of a class (workshop, studio, seminars) assistant

Attend Convergence® Training Class in Reno prior to the conference

We invite you to present your work for critique alongside one another on Saturday, July 7, 2018 in 1-hour Open Portfolio sessions. There are a limited number of spots, so sign up with be limited to first-come, first-served until sessions are full. The portfolio sessions will take place according to the following schedule:
Sessions will be assigned at random to participants. Unfortunately, no session time requests can be guaranteed. Please be prepared to pack up your work and make room for the artist at your table in the session after you when you hear the 5-minute warning that your session time is ending.
Cost: $20
